I read somewhere online that Mollies and Platys will mate. Is this true? If so then I have two Platys that are going to pop any day. I don't have any male Platys right now, I did but for some reason he jumped out of the tank on to the counter during the night. I thought the light lid covered it all but guess not. Anyway, I have a male Mollie, female Mollie, and three female Platys. I am going to take the male Mollie back to the store because he is very aggressive to the other fish and I lost a female Mollie from him. She had a lot of bite marks her. He is aggressive to the other fish also so I thought I had better take him back and trade him for a different one. Thanks

Yes its true, mollies and platties can mate each other but won't produce any offspring from this mating. Male livebearers are like young boys always being horny and will try to hump anything. They don't cares about with who or what, all thing what they thinking are "feel so good" themselves, like male livebearers.

If your platies had a male in with them recently, they will continue to produce platy fry for some time. The common livbearers can continue to drop fry for as much as 6 months with no males in the tank. They store sperm which is one of the difficulties doing selective breeding with livebearers.
