I don't know what type of plants i have but since i have gone to sand they seem to be going rotten. How can i perk up my plants? I leave the light on as long as possible

could we have a colser pic by any chance so we can identify it, a reason may be that the new sand might have no nutrients in it or perhaps something lethal to the plant itself!

Good Luck,

Blubble

More light doesn't necessarily mean better growth, too much light is generally more of a problem, it's probably a nutrient deficiency or unsuitable plants.

could it be that the plants did not like the change and now they are melting but will regrow? that is what i hear can happen

That will have something to do with it, but it looks like a major CO2/Nitrogen deficiency, OP - How many Watt's of light are over the tank? And what kind of bulbs?

15 w bulbs one night glow one normal both interpet energy saver bulbs, whats the Rhizome

The rhizome is a part of the plant that needs to be kept out of the sand. Its the white bit just above the roots, at the bottom of the stem.

Also, how long do you actually leave the lights on for?

What do you mean energy saver bulbs? Are they U shaped, or similar to the ones placed in home light fittings?

Try to go for 8 hours a day and keep the rhizome of the plant above the substrate level.

I have moved the Rhizome up out of the sand and left the roots under

What are the easiest plants to keep this is my second lot that seem to be failing!

I'm terrible with plants; kill them as soon as look at them, me! But I can grow; cryptocorynes, Amazon swords, dwarf chain sword, Java fern, anubias and vallis of various kinds; a thin one, a huge one and V. torta (but the vallis does have to be somewhere it's happy; you might need to move it a few times).
