Plants..

Just use a standard Cyanocrylate based superglue, I've used Loctite, hardware store own brands, all sorts.

Sorry to butt in, do you have to superglue? My LFS said that to tie on crypts I think and some other potted plants, onto the bogwood and leave them for a month or 2 to take? Is this correct?

i believe that works as well. (At least I hope so, because that's what I did a couple days ago.)

Yeh, I just spent about half hour tying them, but I did it with White string. Doh!!! It looks rubbish, so I'm going to either get fishing line or black string or something

Mine are tied with white string as well. It doesn't bother me though. In a couple of months, I'll cut it off or it will discolor and all will be well.

Superglue works fine...if it's safe for reefers, it's sure to be be safe for freshwater.

Timers are the best thing for a planted tank. Eight hours is about average of what we'd use in the planted fraternity. A few use 6 hours some more experienced can stretch it a little further than eight hours.

You've got just over 1WPG, how long are they on for daily?

The lights are on about 6hrs a day.

They are not on a timer, I just turn then on in the evening. There is a fair amount of ambient light in the day.

I should invest in a timer then. Can the lights be on too long for a planted tank? i.e. up to 12 hrs?

A plant I have is starting to turn brown, should I trim the leaves that a rotting?

Thanks

Plants photosynthesise; under highlight they will take their fill and stop after 4-6 hours, in a lower light tank they will photosynthesise slower, hence why in lower light tanks the light can be stretched a little further. Planted tanks can be on for 12 hours, again the light has to be sufficiently low though. When you say they are turning brown, have you got a pic?

PS if they look like they are rotting, then trim and get rid as these rotting leaves will be producing small amounts of ammonia.

Thanks for the info on photosynthesise, I always thought they would take light in as long as it was there.

I’m currently out so not near my tank to take a pic but its literately brown from the tip of the leave to slowly progressing half way the leaf.

I’m afraid I cant answer that (total amateur!). Is there a page with plant images on so I could identify them?
