Hiya,

sorry for posting alot today, iv been out and now have some new fish, and have changed the look of my aquarium to :
. Sand instead of gravel
. live plants instead of fake plants
. decor wood (which i prosume is bogwood.)

i have never had all these before so am a little unsure at the moment? ? ?

thanks x

Have got some live plants today from pets at home, just 3, no idea what type they are, but they came in a pot, i have left them in the pot, i dont take them out do i?

thanks x

yes take them ouy, get rid of the wool, the terracota ring and the pot. and plant into the gravel. however this depends on what type of plant you have. post some pictures of them.

take them out the pot and plant them. if they have a rhizome (a ball at the bottom with roots coming out) dont bury that part just the roots

rhizomes tend to be more long and thin than a ball, and i would attach it to te wood if its a plant with a rhizome, it will do much better.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have looked at the bottom of all my plants, two are just like 4 thick roots, then theres a smaller one that has lots of little roots, my substance is sand and havent tryed standing them up in the sand? ?? ?

help!!! :shout:

Hopefully you took the wool off the roots very gently. Its there to protect the roots which can break easily.

Let's assume you don't have a rhizome plant (perhaps later you can post photos for us.) Ideally, place the damp plants out on the bath or kitchen countertop. Take scissors and trim a small bit (1/8 inch.. something like that, just the root tips.. NOTE: you want long roots, the trimming is just way out there at the tips, farthest away from the plant stems) and then bring them to the tank and roll up your sleeves. Gently hold the plant at the base of the stems where the roots start (this is called the crown of the plant.) Hold it between your thumb and a couple of fingers and bring in down to the sand. With the other free fingers of this same hand, push the sand away such that you've dug a hole for the plant. Put the crown of the plant down deep in this hole, spreading the roots under the sand as best you can. Keep holding the plant all this time, don't let go. Don't worry if you can't get them too spread out, its always hard. Now with the free fingers, cover the roots and crown with sand and smooth the surrounding sand so it looks nice. Finally, gently hold the plant stems down near the base and very slowly lift the plant upward. What you want to do is get the crown back up out of the sand so that its just above the sand and only the roots are under. Gently wave your fingers to blow water on the base of the stems and get any stray sand off of the crown and stems.

Don't worry if it takes a number of times having to completely repeat this until you get the hang of it. Eventually it should get easier! Good luck! :)

hiya,

thanks for the replies! all helped :good:

however, i think personally they look really good in the pot, the pot has an open bottom which the roots stick out of, so the plant gets water, couldnt i just keep them in there? i think they look great! :hyper:

????

the roots will just remain in the pot and will grow in circles and the plant wont be healthy, if the plant has a rhizome burried in the pot it will die, remove them. you can always use the pots for decor once empty

i doubt it is a rhizome plant mate, sounds like she just has a couple of stems. follow waterdrops advice.

post a pic of the plants!!!!!!! :good:
