plants out of water?

can you keep plants alive out of water for any length of, specifically java fern and java moss, i have just inherited a large piece of mopani wood too big for my tank!

I have never tried it myself, but have read that Java Moss can grow in humid locations. So it you place the Java Moss on the wood I'd bet there would be enough humidity for the Java Moss.
