I added african salts to my 55 Gallon at 1 table spoon for every five gallon. I noticed immediatly after a few days that my african sword was dying off so after leaving it in there for another couple weeks, the plant was not looking so good. I clipped off all the leaves that were hurt and/or dead and I put the plant in my 30 gallon fresh water where within one day started growing new leves and in about 7 days had about 4 new large leaves with 2 new ones.

Are there any plants I can use in my 55 gallon? I was thinking of using brackish plants but brackish water is a more salty then my water.

Any suggestions?

Yeh most plants dont really tolerate salt. I'm also surprised the fish didnt eat the plants! These plants are listed on the tropica website as being able to tolerate brackish water.

Aponogeton crispus

Bacopa monnieri

Cladophora aegagrophila

Crinum calamistratum

Crinum natans

Crinum thaianum

Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Mi Oya'

Glossostigma elatinoides

Lilaeopsis brasiliensis

Lilaeopsis macloviana

Microsorum pteropus 'Narrow'

Microsorum pteropus 'Philippine'

Nymphaea lotus (zenkeri)

Samolus valerandi

Shinnersia rivularis

Taxiphyllum barbieri (Vesicularia)

Thanks. The Mbunas don't really eat the Amazon Swords. Atleast mine don't.

Ah I noticed I did a typo on my OP. I add one table spoon for every FIVE gallons, not one gallon.
