Where does everyone tend to get their plants from. It seems that I spend lots more money on plants than I do on fish!

......do any of you have "spare" plants.....or cuttings that you would be willing to sell or trade or swap?

Just interested...........

thanks...... :D

I'm in the same boat. My lfs does not carry many plants, and the ones that they do carry are extremely high. I'm talking like $9 for a TINY plant.

I buy my plants online.

I personally get mine from greenline aquatics, (google it for address). They have good starter collections for £12 ish for a 30" tank. I think its great value.

There are others out there too...google or PFK mag have ads.

WOW.....just had a look at that place..............

.......that looks like serious value for money compared to "3 plants for £8.50" at my lfs...... :D

thanks for the link..........you'll have to let us know if you think what you get is good value for money......

Greenline are really good - and Andy who owns it is really helpful. You have to remember that 1 plant from Greenline is one stem cutting. The plants from your lfs are probably pots or bunches - you are not comparing like for like. However, provided you're prepared to grow them on, a collection from Greenline is excellent value. I'm just about to post about my newly set up tank - including special delivery all the plants were £30 from Greenline, they fill the one 40G tank and I still have some left over. I do recommend them!

There are several mail order plant links in the pinned topics at the top of the forum.

eBay is also a good source, as long as you know what you are doing and don't believe all of the hype that some of the sellers spout. There are an awful lot of non-aquatic plants being sold there. Research first, bid later.

Ava, I'm not sure where you are located but in the US I have bought plants from here on 2 occasions and was very pleased both times. Prices were good, shipping was quick and the plants were in great shape.

Again, AquariumPlant is in the sticky at the top of the forum.

Grumble - you collect this info, put it in a handy list and still it is ignored. Why do I bother?

......so many links.........so little time........ :D

Oh.......and rdd1952.....as it says by my avatar, I am in the UK, but thanks for posting :kana:

I buy all my plants online. The LFS doesn't have much variety and a lot of them aren't true aquatics. Trouble when I buy online is that I have to justify the shipping cost (usually 10-12$) so I end up buying all this other stuff that normally I wouldn't need to buy just yet...like filter media and a spare heater etc.

i got mine on ebay, I paid $22 US for 18 plants with a whole load of bunches included, you can see the pictures of my first planted tank here, they are all in there - the assortment I got was the south american one - but they guy has asian assortments and others as well - he is in tampa, FL and his ebay id is aquatic6414.

oh and the s&h is fast and free in the US, so i dunno how much it would be to the UK, but its worth to ask

here is the link to the forum for my plants if yall wanna peek:
