Fish Crazy
Hey everybody!!!!!
Definitely new to this part of the forum. I've been asking a bunch of questions on how to set up a tank for a new 55g home for my severum. One of the things I was considering for this new tank was to setup some Real plants for it.
Now given my lack of know how on plants, I wanted to see if there were any plants that were basically a 'beginner' plant that don't require co2(I don't have any extra room for it - this tank is gonna be tightly fit into a kitchen counter above a sink & below some cupboards) Anyways, I also wanted to see if there were any of these 'idiot proof' plants that can also provide shade & cover for my sev. without him eating them all.
Right now, I was thinking of maybe having laterite or some sort of nutrient rich bottom soil that will be covered with a mix of small gravel & sand. I think I can manage understanding root tabs & fert dosing if need be - but again- no co2.
So, if there are some of these plants that exist, I want to know what to look for as far as lighting requirements - what types of lights, watts per gallon, etc. - the lights that came with the tank are a stock part of a 55g kit I bought from wal-mart. Don't know what the wattage is off the top of my head, but I can go look if need be.
Any questions, let me know - or advice on where to start would be cool as well
Thanks in advance,
BobRos
