Rorippa Aquatica, Crypt Ciliata and Elodea Densa tolerate alkaline water. How high is you ph and what are your lighting levels?

I think the fish eating/destroying the plants are the concern here, not water chemistry.

Anubias sp. are popular as they attach to rocks and have very tough leaves.

thanks gf225.any more ideas.the main problem is uprooting and eating.i've put 3 java fern in at the moment and they are fine.

Check out the Tropica website (link in my signature). On the right there's a list of plants, you can limit the search to "not eaten by herbivorous fish", then it's just a case of choosing one that isn't too easily uprooted.

thanks gf225 for the tropica website.very helpful.thanks again.
