I have been cycling my tank for several months now and everything seems to be ok fish are striving but just last week i have been noticing brown stuff on my plants and rocks can anybody direct me how to get ride of this!!!!

Brown algae (diatoms) are very normal in newly set up tanks, its unsightly but not a problem to you fish. How long do you have your lights on for daily, also if the tank is in any direct sunlight this will make it slightly worse, it will, however, after a while disappear only to be replaced by green algae

Ive used a soft long handled brush (kinda like a washing up brush) to clean the sides of the tank with, and gently rub the plants (if they are real) and it will come off, or if plastic take them out and give them a good clean in warm water, same with the rocks. It does come back often, but will eventually die off.

no not corys id say rubber nose plec or ottos. and how long do you leave your lights on for and is your tank in direct sunlight? restrict your lighting to 5 or 6 hours. and keep it out of direct sunlight and change 20% of the water . i had this problem and i found reducing the light intensity resolved the problem

Stick a few Corys in there, they'll soon munch their way through the algae :good:

Nope corys wont touch it, ottos will but in a newly set up tank not so advisable, however and I know everybody moans about snails, but get yourself some ramshorn snail, they will clean that up in a jiffy, they love the stuff :good:
