hi all!
the stem plants i just got have no roots at all. how do i get them to stay in the ground? thanks! :D

Hi I asked a similar question a while back and some people say they leave them floating for a while to give them a chance for roots to grow.

I did this for a bit then got impatient so I loosely wrapped foam around a bunch and weighed it down with a lead weight. But I haven't buried mine in the substrate yet.

thanks!
i have 3 bunches floating in my tanks now, i hope they sprout some roots soon! :p

within a week you should have plenty of roots to plant...just out of curiosity i am attempting to plant my 46 gallon (which only has 1 30W fluorescent tube) with cuttings from my other tanks of plants that can withstand lower light levels and my hygro sprouted about 3" of roots in 2 days

Hi newfishies!
You should be able to keep them down if you just plant them well into the substrate, and squeeze the gravel around them. Unless you have sand, then either let them float, or put lead weights on small bunches.
HTH!

I just stick the stem in the sand or whatever, and place a rock on a leaf next to the surface. It holds it down perfectly, and after a week or so, the roots have grown in and you can remove the rock.
