Planted Vase Being Sold As Betta Tank

*Slams head against keyboard*

Some people are idiots I'd warrent most of us have breeding traps bigger than that.

Yeah.... It's actually called a "symbiotic relationship"; the Betta gets fed from the plant, and the plant gets fed from the Betta.... I have heard stories where people never change the tank water, because "supposedly" their plant is doing it, and they never feed the Betta, either; and then it dies and they get another one and it dies and they get another one and etc., etc., etc.; AND THAT IS JUST SO CRAZY!!!! DX

My babysitter (she's, like, 70; she comes because when me and my younger sisters are home alone.... Yeah. I really like her.... But ANYWAYS), well, she thought it was interesting and cool, and sounded nice. Well, I sure gave her a shock when I told her that Bettas are carnivores, and would prefer something meaty and fishy!!!! But she understood. ;) She *always* understands. :good:

you could use the same reasoning to say that people wouldn't be stupid enough to put a goldfish in a bowl with nothing else in it - just the fish...yet people still do it.

what I don't understand is how exactly it's a symbiotic relationship - I get the idea that the plant uses the ammonia produced by the fish, but what exactly is the fish supposed to eat? the plants stem? I can't see that working - although I guess that's why the fish inevitably die.

shame really, it's actually quite a pretty plant, if it weren't advocating cruelty to a fish...

sorry for caring

most folks dont know any better,
i was working for a catering company and we worked a wedding where every table had a vase with a betta in it. and afte rthe wedding, none of the guests were taking them home. so i felt HORRIBLE and took two boys home. they got 5 gal tanks and while one died shortly after due to a reaction to melafix for a torn fin (i never recommend full dose of melafix with bettas!!! some handle it fine, my poor boy did not. otherwise very healthy active fish) the other boy has been in my care for nearly 2 years with no end in sight*knock wood* :hyper: my first bettas ive ever owned and now i have 4.
really folks, people will believe just about anything they are told when they dont know any better. its all about marketing and advertising to the sheep! it is assumed in marketing that the masses are stupid. period!
shame this goes on tho. just be glad we know better and can inform folks we know that this is not acceptable.
cheers
