Oh you know us better than that Steelhealr. We're just busy preparing our dissertations on Java fern. I'll see if I can get one in there tomorrow if you'd like. If you don't mind a lousy picture with a camera phone. At least the plants don't move when I take a picture. I think I'll do one of the Elogeria species.

EDIT: I take it back, I would rather do some of the hygro species, if I may. I have had them longer.

Remember to follow the same outline for posting. Have fun and I'm gonna check them out. SH

That's the current format. It seems like most of it should work, with the exception of a few things, but perhaps gf225 would like to add a few things in? :)

Nice idea. There was talk of starting a plant profile list before, it looks like we have no excuses now.

Obviously plants are very different to fish so I think it's worthwhile creating a more relevant list of categories if we are to do things properly. Here's my suggestions -

Scientific name -

Common terms -

Geographic origin -

Type (stem, bulb, rhizome, floating etc.) -

Max. size (height, width) -

Lighting required -

Temperature -

Water chemistry requirements (pH, hardness) -

Growth rates -

Demands -

Additional info -

Does everyone agree with this?

Just one more observation. I think the reason there may have been little response up until now is that the Forum is title "Fish Index", no mention of plants unless you read the tiny sub-forum writing below.

Yes i saw the plant index and have every intention to submit some entries, the only problem with an index like this in my mind is the picture hosting, as members come and go so do the pics, its a pity there is not a way they could be hosted permenantly, and i guess that goes for all the index's. Anyway just my thoughts, i will submit some entries in the next few days, presumably they go through a mod first of all? as somebodys idea of Java fern might be somebody else's idea of Vallis or whatever, so correct ID is probably not a bad idea first of all.

All posts in the Index forum have to be mod approved before becoming visible so that will hopefully elimate most mis-IDs etc.

I never realised pics come and go with the members. Do you mean if a member becomes inactive their pics are removed?

I've just put an example profile of Echinodorus tenellus. Have I missed anything? http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showforum=84

Well presumably you are hosting the picture and not TFF.

so when someone becomes bored with TFF and does not post here any longer the picture hosting is at their discretion and not TFFs, because they are hosting the picture.

Good point.

I suppose the hope is that if a member is willing to put the effort into writing a profile, then they're likely to stick around. I know this may not always be the case so if the images are removed then it will necessary to find another. That shouldn't be too much trouble.

I just submitted one for H. polysperma, I don't see it yet, I'm assuming it's being reviewed. Hate to go through all that work and I accidently deleted it. I posted a new topic in the plant index and hit submit when I was done, and didn't see it there. That always makes me a little nervous. :look:

lljdma, yep, your profile is in queue, waiting for review. :)

This is very exciting. I'm looking forward to seeing all the great profiles you all will write up. The planted section has become such an active section as of late, with many great, active, committed and enthusiastic members, I just know we'll see some great things from all of you. So get cracking on those profiles!!

Thank you, sigh of relief. I just never know with my computer. Sometimes, it can be jumpy.
