Hi, i have just planted my tank with various vallis plants, but they don't seem to be doing well, especially the green & white type (not sure this one is vallis though)The ends keep going feathery, white & decaying.I added tetra complete to the substrate before planting & added fert tabs after & have ordered some liquid fertilizers, but shouldn't think there would be a problem with that this early.I am thinking it maybe the lighting, as i only have 2 x T8 bulbs which i think are only 30w each, which came with the tank (regency 120 300 ltr), but vallis are supposed to be hardy & although do prefer brighter light, will do well regardless. I also have wisteria doing very well, so can anybody tell me what i done wrong please

I don't think there is a green and white type of vallis. Have you got a pic? Can you identify the plant on this thread?....

I did chop few ends other day, but only after they had been like this.Found couple smelly roots at bottom tank today, but think this was from the spiralis i originally brought & wrongly planted behind bubble
Can't do pics as wont install on this computer, but i got two types of the plants at same time, the dark green ones are around 2f, are darker green & more vibrant than vallis, they also have stronger leafs. The green & white ones are slightly shorter & colored like a spider plants leafs. The link is for non-aquatic plants? Are you suggesting i have brought house plants? NO, there defo aquarium as they looked great in aquatic shop before i got me mitts on em

after reading this thread i'd probably go with the Chlorophytum comosum. These are often sold as aquatic plants when really they are not full aquatic. They will last about 2-3 weeks before showing decay, then it's downhill from there. Be careful as they will leech ammonia and may cause algae outbreaks.

No, don't think it is.Had another look today & its white over green rather than green over white & there thinner stripes than a Chlorophytum comosum & more of them?

get a pic up. IME there is no plants that is aquatic that match's that description apart from non aquatics. There are different varieties of this plants.

How long are your lights on for? I'm not sure that vallis should be trimmed on the leaves. In my experience untried it once on one leaf and it died off and melted away. The ends frayed up and looked kinda like celery that was snapped in half with the stringy parts before it died. I had much better success by plucking the whole leaf from the base of the plant when it was too long.

I agree with ianho though. Can't say I've ever seen or heard of a vallis type plant with white stripes. But I can think of a few non aquatic ones.

check all the way down the length of the leaves down to the bas where the rots start for any kinks/breaks as any leaf after the point of a break will die off.

are u adding any co2 with all that fert and lighting?

It's only got 2x30w t8's, so no co2 needed. My plec was on them today, which i haven't seen him do before, so took them out as some of the leafs were starting to turn mushy & they smelt rotten when i got them out. Guess they are non aquatic, like was suggested :grr: Still don't understand why they were pretty much rotting from day one, when they are so lush in shop? Not much point in finding out though, as i wont be risking another batch, may just stick to plastics as i don't want my fish dying. Already worried about them, as its to late to change water, but those roots smelt really bad & a bit tary,(not a word) but you get my drift.Only did 60% water change yesterday aswell.
