Hi,

Have just setup my new 4x2x2 400l tank, upgraded from Juwel Rio 180l tank, only ever had plastic plants but would like to add some real ones. Having looked around at various posts people generally have a co2 system, which is something I won't be having, as such what plants can I get that can live without the need for a co2 system, I have a sand substrate.

Many thanks

What lighting is over the tank?

I'm sure it's arcadia 36w

Have you thought of starting off with Java Fern or moss even Anubias as these you don't need co2 or good lighting, sorry i can't give you alot of help but I know these ferns are a good stating point, i have just added some to my tank :) with these plants you might know? you attach the plant to a rocks or aquarium wood.

This may be a silly question, but as I have a sand substrate is this ok for the plants to be planted into? :/

Thanks

hi, do you only have one light, or 2? because if you only have one then you have really low lighting! even with 2 your lighting is low. are they t5, t6, t8 or t12? i agree that you should start off with anubias and java ferns. they have to have their rhizomes (fat horizontal bit where the leaves come out of) above the substrate or they will die. you can tie them onto rocks or wood, or you could plant them in the sand, as long as the rhizome is above the sand. :good:

Yes there are 2 lights, think there T8's, thinking of getting some bogwood as well so could tie plants to some of that. Just after some shelter for fish really, as have just got a sev.

Ok, so can I add java moss? What other plant options do I have? I would like to grow a nice low maintance setup which requires no more lighting that what I have and no co2 input.

Thanks
