Do you have to replace plant substrate? I'm really interested in getting some (after seeing what it does from the pics here)... and was just wondering if you have to replace it? And if so.. how often?

So depending on how planted the tank is and what's planted, you do eventually have to replace it. Hmm.. Alrighty then! Thanks a bunch!

It also depends on your ferts.

If the plants can't get nutrient from the water column then they will take from only their roots depleting the nutrients in the substrate quicker

Ah ok.. so I should still put in liquid ferts if I get substrate right?
How often should you put the liquid stuff in?

Most people who use that type of substrate fertilise with E.I (read the sticky on it) or alternativley you can use something like seachem flourish which will have instructions for dosing on the bottle.

George said that to dose EI you should be heavily planted.
