hi just woundering if i could use anything that i could find in a garden centre to plant some plants if it's clean and got no chemicals or any thing?

and how mant gallons are in 71 litres????????

71 litres = 15.6178102 Imperial gallons
71 litres = 18.7562157 US gallons

you can use some kinds of compost but not all. check the bags.

try here, this is good stuff. its reasonably cheap and decent postage. HERE MATE

one bag does 100l.. so you will only need one. you can cap it or not, its up to you.
 
An alternative that will work but takes some care is to use the standard houseplant potting soil as the beginning of your substrate. You want the cheapest, unfortified, no special growth additives potting soil, the stuff you would never get for your houseplants because you wouldn't want to need fertilizers after like you would with this stuff. If your prices are anything like here, you can get all you would need for maybe £1 or £2. It does need to be covered with sand or gravel to keep particles from floating around in the tank water.
