Plant maintenence....

Unless you are running a very high light tank, or you have an established tank with plants that are showing signs of deficiencies, you probably don't need to add fertilizers. If you do need to add fertilizers, it's a good idea to start slowly, add less dosage than the bottle calls for, because as you see, if your chemistry is off and you have, say, too much phosphorus (either in your tap water, or entering your tank via fish food)... you end up with an algae bloom. For many plants it's better to add root tabs than liquid ferts.

I suggest you start a thread in the planted tank section, explaining your setup (lighting, water parameters, types of plants, etc) to get more specific advice on what, if anything, you should be adding for the plants.

Hmmm, my tank doesn't go cloudy at all when I add mine, but then my tanks set-up and qualities are different to yours. It sounds like it could be because of an algal bloom, and like luxum suggested, pehaps give the 'Plants' section a go. :)
