So I may as well start off with the setup (not actually bought anything yet so it is all changeable!). I am looking to create a reasonably heavily planted tank with lots of wood (I will be using ferts and liquid Co2).

Specs:

Juwel Rio 180 (180l)
Tetratec ex700 external filter 700lph
Juwel 200w heater
2 T5 45w bulbs (one daylight other nature)
3, 9kg bags of Eco Complete Plant substrate
3d Juwel rock background

I found this assortment of plants but I don't know which ones would thrive well in this setup or if there are better alternatives. If anyone could mention any specific species then this would also be welcome:

Eustralis Stellata

Echinoduros Ozelot

Ammania Gracilis

Amazon Frogbit

Pogostemon Helferi

Lilaeopolis Novea Zealandie

Bolbitus Heudelotii

Microsorium Pteropus

Cryptocoryne Wendtii Green

Flame moss/Java moss (which is best?)

So if anyone has any plants they would like to point out which are not suitable or any specific needs of these plants then please tell me. Also, if anyone knows any good places to buy wood from at low prices that'd be great! And one more thing, is my lighting good enough or would it benefit from change? I don't mind doing this if it will definatley help get things going better.

If it were me I'd only run with one tube, I know they're not independently switched so fitting an upside down reflector to one of the tubes would work, or you could use floating plants such as Silvinia natans you'll really struggle to maintain a set up with that much light with just liquid carbon and ferts, liquid Carbon isn't as good as CO[sub]2[/sub].

The Lilaeopsis will strugle without CO[sub]2[/sub] in my experience, growth will be leggy, same applies to the Pogostemon stellatus, quite a difficult plant to grow and it will struggle without CO[sub]2[/sub].

With that much light you'll also want a bigger filter or a circulation pump.

Ok I think I'll take out one of the tubes then! Sounds like the cons for having 2 tubes running heavily outweigh the pros :/ The Silvinia natans look good so I will defo consider them. Pogostemon stellatus? I didn't include that in my list, although when I googled it, it looked very different to any of the plants on my list! Apart from those am I ok...

P.stellatus is Eustralis stellata I believe, I didn't recognise the genus so googled it and that came up, if you take a tube out I think you'll risk blowing the unit, both must be in for it to function correctly.

Ah nuts, what should I do then, is there some sort of bridger that would keep the current going between the 2 connectors or something?

No, the unit just wouldn't function, the easiest option is floating plants or an upside down reflector.

Ok, I'll hunt round for some reflectors and if there aren't any cheap ones that'll fit I will looking into the Silvina natans and maybe some other floating plants. Thanks for the help so far Standy Setting :good:

Found some Juwel reflectors on ebay for £19! Theres that disaster averted, now are there any more things I need to know about these plants or any others that I should consider?

what length are the tubes if there 849mm you can change 1 of them for a lower wattage tube like a 21w phillips ativiva natural

A piece of foil will suffice, I wouldn't recommend putting a tube into a fitting that is of the wrong rating.

Using a piece of foil soiunds like a good idea but does foil grade aluminium corrode or leach pollutants in tank water?

Good, that sounds like the cheaper, more viable option then :good: Im still not sure of the lengths of the tubes so i'll have to check that later, I guess foil over the light wont cause it to overheat?

The foil wont be touching the tube, it will just be sitting below it, yes it will get hot, but not significantly enough to pose a risk.

Good good. Anubias look very nice, which of these stay small? There's so many different types, also can anyone reccomend any Crypts for my setup?

Thanks guys, and thanks again Standby Setting!
