Righty, I think i'm on the right track with my plants, but there are a few things that are going on that i need to fix.

Can you peeps take a look at these shots of a few plants and offer up some suggestions please.

Just to note, i've 2 x Tetratec 1200 with roughtly 2000 litres an hour turn over between the two, 2 x 900lph power heads, which gives me, roughtly speaking 4k lph circulation on a 400 litre tank. I have 2 x 54W T5 lights, on for 7 hours a day so roughtly 1wpg, and a FE CO2 setup also on for 7 hours, but staggered by two hours. I dose using EI methods, have been for the last couple of weeks, 80ml of macro, 80ml of Trace alternating daily with a 50% water change on the weekends.

This Crypt has been like this for god knows how long now.

This is a crypt which i took a snip from, planted and its grown 5 leaf stems in about 3 months. New leaves are relatively green, but were melting a little, that however seems ot have stopped, although, the leaves get dirty, like so:

This is an Anubias nana, its been attached to a bit of wood for ages. Its developing dark edges, no idea why, and there also seems to be a little green spot algae on a few other leaves.

Several leaves on my Java Fern have black "dead" patches on them and look a little "pitted" for want of a better word. New leaves do spring up and are very green to begin with and it looks quite nice, however, they seem to become like this fella after a while. I know some leaves with plantlets on the end die off, so need snipiing and i try to keep up with this. I've actually gone really mental with the Fern since taking this picture and cut it right back, all big leaves gone.

This plant, which i dont know the ID of, was ever so green when planted, but as just sat there limp and life less.

Im in a hard water area, i accept some plants just wont do well, all of the ones pictured are in an area with very good circulation, in fact it would be quite hard to pick out a dead spot in the tank.

The CO2 is diffused inline and comes out of the left hand spray bar in a fine mist. A power head helps push it along to the other end of the tank, while another powerhead at the other end helps circulate it back in the opposite way.

Any ideas / suggestions welcome :)

Ta!

Are you monitoring co2 levels?... ie.. drop checker with 4dkh solution. If so have you moved it around the tank to see if levels are stable in various spots?. What colour is the drop checker showing?.

Yes mate, it's been all over the shop for long periods of time, it's lime green everywhere.

Have you changed to a new mix at all lately for ferts by any chance?

Yes mate, as i said above, i've changed over to EI dosing, dry ferts. Previously i was dosing TPN+. In all honesty, its been like this for quite a long time now, at least with the crypts! Always seem to form dirt on the leaves. My Vallis is doing ok, but again, there are dark patches here and there which you can rub off between your fingers, but its never quite as clean as it could be.

I meant have you used up an old mix and started a new mix lately, just in case you got the measurements wrong?

Its not happened over night mate, like i said, the crypts and anubias have been like this for months, there isnt anything "lately" i can identify.

Tizer I had the same problem with this 'dirt' forming on leaves. This is in a low tech tank though without C02, but it looks so unattractive and I would love to find out how to stop it. It's made me cut back on live plants for now as I was so fed up with it!

Anubias and the like are renowned for getting algae just because they are so slow growing. Crypts i have no idea about tbh, i dont like them and never really kept them.

I guess you could cut back all of the decaying algaed leaves and dose a carbon source for a while, once it's cleared up, see if it returns. I know this isn't finding the source of the problem but you never know it may solve the problem... worth a try considering nothing else is working for you and there seems to be no obvious signs of why it is happening.
