Hi there,

I was searching ideas for a betta tank on our kitchen bench, my wife loves them and I came across this and my wife loves the idea given we love our fish tanks and love our gardening thought this would be great but don't know what type of plant this is, any ideas or sugestions would be great.

Regards Darren

Not a great pic really, but if I had to guess I'd say probably an anubias of some kind, looks a bit fleshy for a crypt.

I'd second that. I think it's an anubias, but not sure what type - don't think it's a nana, as the leaves are too pointed

will anubias grow out of the water like that?

Anubias are one of the few plants that are actually non-aquatic in the wild but that will grow underwater.

It could be Anubias barteri var. angustifolia

what sort of external temps and humidity would I need?

High for both I would think. Its a tropica plant after all.

Looking at the pic I think the tank is actually doughnut shaped and the plant is just a common house plant in the middle, most likely a peace lily (spathiphylium (sp?)).

However if you wanted to recreate this with a normal shallow tank then you'd be looking at using something like an anubias. (Though I have a funny feeling that peace lillies can be grown in the same way, but you'd have to double check)

peace lillys will grow with there roots in water however if submerged fully they tend to rot after a few months

Good spot actually, look like the plant isn't actually in the water at all.
