Unpacking boxes (after moving house), I came across a box of slow release fertilizer pills for aquatic plants called "Lillipill". On the box it says "for Waterlilies, Bog plants, Aquatics. and it contains Dicalcium Phosphate.

The instructions says "push the pills deep into the mud below the aquatic plant or water lily in spring and again in mid summer". - small plants 2 pills, medium plants 3 pills.

My question is, Can this be used in the ordinary aquarium, (or only in ponds) and is it ok with fish (like Discus)

Well, considering that it's used in dog treats, I imagine dicalcium phosphate it won't harm aquatic life. It seems to me a source of both calcium and phosphorus, but my chemistry is rough when you are currently a musician. Phosphorus is maco nutrient and Calcium is typically a trace.

I'm not sure, however. I imagine no, but you never know. I have not used pill before.

It should be fine, the levels of Ca released will be low as they are designed to be slow release so it won't cause to much upset with fish. PO4 doesn't affect fish even at high levels.

Thanks,... So I'm gonna do it, but if I loose any fish during the next 3 years, I'll just blame you guys here in the planted section.... :shifty:

ok. :S

Now, I put 2 of these pills under the gravel at an Amazon sword, and one pill under a Vallis on the 11th April.... How long before I will see the results??

It depends on how much light you have. Light determines the rate of growth. More light = faster growth rate. Nutrients affect the quality of growth. Give it a week or two if you have low light. Sometimes you can see results in couple of days with the high-tech setups, especially if you have a lot of stemplants. Amazons and Vallis grow a bit slower, so probably a week or so.
