i want a go at breeding plants.

i know ill need about 3-4watts per gallon.

but can you look at these?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ssPageName=WDVW

i have them one on my 3ft tank but it came alreadyy set up. basically im just wondering if they will help at all with me getting the 3-4watts. like say a 2ft tank to start with - can two of those go on one light?

thanks,

so do they then just stick inside your lid? say for a 3ft tank thats say 29gallons i think? do i then just get say two double ones and stick say 3 40watt bulbs in?

can you get higher than 40watt?

and when it says 'double 40' that is actual two 40watts and not 2x20?

yes the bulb holders screw into the lid and the bulbs into those - however, if you get two double holders, you need a bulb in each for them to work - so you cant get away wth only having one bulb in one. So you'd be better with a single and a double.

take a look at the hood i made - you may get a better picture of how the work - http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showto...009&hl=diy+hood

I'm not sure - but the output goes on length so to fill a 3ft hood you'd need the 36 inch ones which are 40 watts - if you could get more they would be too long - but i've not seen higher than 40 watts personaly.

yes - mine said "double 14watt" and that means each bulb is 14 watts - therefore a total of 28.

great thanks for all the info!

well i think i might see how much those on ebay go for and whether to bid on them because theyd be useful to keep for if i need a single one.

do brand new holders come with bulbs? or do you buy those separate?

are these holders what is known as 'compact lighting' then?

just to check. the holder i have on one of my 3fts says model ac15 type c2 14/15w

would it blow if i put more than that in?

when you say a 3ft needs to be 36inch bulb..well my 3ft bulb is only something like 18inches in length

yes i think it would. you want something like the VisiLux Twin 18/20w T8 Light Unit - how many gallons is your tank?
