Allright lads.

Basically next week I plan to get my first betta (as the title says). In particular a male Crowntail if its any help =P

I'm just wondering; are they compatible with black neons/harlequins and red platys? Because I've heard conflicting stories from several local enthusiasts who claim that the bettas will maul anything apart from the smallest fish.

Its not too much to worry about at present (apart from the harlequins), as the only fish in my tank at the moment are 2 wee Harlequin Rasboras (who seem to be doing allright).

Furthermore, are there any tips or advice anyone could suggest on bettas at all (e.g - PH, temp, tank arrangements etc)? I plan on making this fish the "jewel" of the tank, and I'm hoping to be as prepared as possible to ensure that it settles in the tank as smoothly as possible, to the benefit of all its inhabitants =P

I think it can work with those fish as company (Not totally sure??), You have to really watch fin nipping as tetras have been known to do so! Bettas dont maul tank mates unless they resemble them (other bettas, Guppies, etc). For a setup go for a heavily planted tank wih lots of hidding places to ensure hes comfortable! But im a newbie so hope it helps mate good luck :good:

Aye I went and bought several plants to place along the back of my tank - plenty of space for the betta to hide in when stressed =)

Thanks very much for the advice!

I've never had tetras, but I do have platys living quite happily with my bettas. :good: I have a very densely planted tank too. Look forward to seeing piccies of your new boy :D
