I bought a Siamese fighting fish from this aquarium shop and the person said that it is an actual fighting fish meaning it was bred for that purpose intended. So do you class this fish as a plakat as it has short fins. I ordered a plakat from another shop and it is similar with short fins but it doesn't have the broadness like the fighter. He seems very wide and bulky in the body and his fins although short are somewhat more spread out and wider.

post a pic??
the difference might just be in the age and overall condition of the fish.
cheers

Im dying to show pics but its not working for me. Im trying to get my son to help as my computer skills are very limited. But thanks for your reply short fin bettas are called Plakats right?

Yes they are, the one in my Avi is a Doubletailed Plakat, i also have a Plakat both of them are HUGE comparied to my DT

possibly what is known as a king betta also
they are like PKs on roids

Thanks for your info guys, maybe my fighting fish was on the same diet as S.Stallone before I bought him. I thought Plakat might have meant fish with short fins but it actually means biting fish. So I'm guessing your Imbellis and Smaragdinas etc all come under the Plakat breed? :/
