Bought a pitbull plec yesterday to go in my 27litre tank with my Betta, and he doesnt seem to be eating.

He's only around an inch long, and i split up an algae wafer, and droped two small bits in the tank. This morning, none of them seem to have been eaten, but they have been moved, so not sure if this was the plec eating a bit of them, or my Betta seeing what it was. The tank hasnt been set up for long, and theres no algae in it (apart from the algae wafer) so will he be finding food elsewhere?

I also read somewhere that these should be kept in pair, so should i get another one on Saturday?

Any help is appreciated.

Should be more than a pair, 6 or more is ideal from what i've read recently. But a pair is better than one.
Though mine is alone too, the only pitbulls near me are in an extended quarantine.....
They are mainly scavengers from what little i know, they do and will eat algae but will also grab the bits of detritus that settle on your tank floor.
I'd try overfeeding with flake in the meantime and seeing if it seems to eat this (but make sure you gravel vac regularly,) try blanched veg as well. Fish from the same species (IME) won't have the same preference when it comes to food.
Should also have some wood in the tank.

yeah im about to put a bit of bogwood in there now. I'll try over feeding on flakes. Im off to my LFS on Saturday to get my stock for my main tank, so i'll get some more. Quite glad you said that 'cos it gives me an excuse to get some more, 'cos there amazing little things :p

Nice aren't they, your missing out though, mine is with butterfly hillstream loaches and the interaction between the 2 when there is a territorial challenge is very funny....
Anyway loving mine....

Well this tanks not exactly on the large side (it was originaly intended for just my Betta). Although i think a couple more Pitbulls in there will finish it off. Just put a piece of bogwood in there from out of my main tank. Hope the little guy likes it :)
