I am busy setting up a new tank for my pink convicts. The tank is 36" X 16" X 16" and has a 200w heater which is set at 21c which should get the tank up to about 72f as it a little to big for the tank. The tank also contains a fluval 4 plus filter which has mature media in it. Here are my ideas for decoration and such:

Natural colour gravel(20kg)
2x Bog wood
3x broken plant pots(various sizes)
Slate bridges(good for hiding and such)
5x Amazon swords
Elodea densa(along the back of the tank)
Java Fern(on the bog wood)
3x Anubias barteri

Any suggestion on the décor would be great!

Stocking ideas:

2x Pink Convict Cichilds
3x Pleco
2x Red tail shark
0r
8x Tiger Barbs

Here are some pics of the tank:

(note: that horrid yellow crap is gone same as the stupid décor)

I will upload more pictures when filled and things are added.

u only want 1 rtbs and probably a good idea to get either the rtbs or the school of tiger barbs as rtbs tend to kill tiger barbs when older. i also think 3 plecs might be a bit much. otherwise stocking sounds ok. though im not sure if convicts and plants work ok together

if the filter is mature, u will need to provide it with a source of ammonia or it will be just like a new one after a couple of days

Not sure about the convicts any more tbh. :/

I tried a RTBS in with my pink convicts and it didn't work out, Jamie - they bullied the RTBS into hiding. Also had the same problem with a rainbow shark in there. Even African Dwarf Frogs didn't go down too well with the PCs and had to be rehomed into another tank. I have that size tank with just the short bodied convicts in by themselves now, although they have produced tons of fry over the years (7 of which have grown to adulthood - and two of those I've put in a separate tank now). As mentioned on another of your threads, mine are short-bodied and the largest the males grow are about 3" (and luckily I have more females).

I'm just thinking that if little SBPCs can bully a RTBS which is twice its size, what would a normal sized PC do to it? Those convicts are feisty little characters to say the least!

Plants and pink convicts don't seem to mix too well together. Mine keep digging the plants up and eat the roots, or just tear the roots off. Either way, it's not very good for the plants.

no problem with a female Pink Con, Tiger barbs and a Rainbow Shark here (in a 4ft 75g), you'll get problems with breeding cons with anything you put in there.
