A few days ago my pink convict and texas c became really good friends. They stick together and are very nice, they keep the other convicts in top corners of the tank. Anyways, the pink and texas came to the front of the tank to great me as always, and I noticed her/his tummy is yellow on the lower half. Does this mean anything? She looks fine other wise. The texas is around 2 inches long and the pink c is probably an inch and a half.

i think it has soething to do with breading, but only the females get it.

That means that it is a she. All females get the yellow/orange patch on their bellies when they are of right age for breeding. The male should not change at all. You should see her getting plump with eggs now.

Why not try to use some different things for them tol lay eggs on/in. slate is obvious, I prefer to use clay pots for them, because the parents can protect it really well, which could mean that the crayfish might not be able to get to them, how big is the crayfish?

He's actually the blue crayfish. Around 6-7 inches long. They cichlids keep digging like crazy all day lately if that means anything

Well, actually it does, most cichlids do this to put their young down their once they hatch or lay their eggs down their. They are very carrying parents and are even annoyed by rocks/pebbles  :D
