Alright so the situation is my buddys got a 29gallon tank with his green terror in it, originally it was going to be the fish's quarentene(spelling?) tank, but now he's using it as a grow out tank as the greens only about 1.5", if that. He wants to get a Pictus catfish (or 2 or 3) for the bottom of the tank to help with the mess (he feeds it sinking pellets, blood worms and brine shrimp) the guys a real "terror" if you will when it comes to eating the food, he refuses to touch it once it hits the bottom of the tank (ugh). Would a pictus catfish get along with a green terror?? I think he may want to keep them together full time if yes., my thoughts are that the green (when larger) will beat the living crap out of the pictus cats, am I right?

I'm not to sure on that, for the pictus, they can be kept with just about any fish that is larger than the pictus' mouths. As for how they will get along with a green terror long-term, you might post in the New World section. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showforum=28

It's a grow-out tank, they've got a larger tank (I think a 75gallon for the green alone) to go into later if he does get them.

Is 29 gallons enough for a Pictus? Can't they get 10"+

In his original post he said his friend is just using the 29 for a grow-out tank and wants the pictus to be the green terror's permanent companions, so they would be moved to a larger tank when bigger.

Maximum size: 6", 12" in the wild
(From CFC's pim pictus profile)

So would they be fine short term? That's the true question here, as in, would the green terror and Pictus cats get along?

I never had luck trying pictus with my cichlids.. severums, jds, parrot cichlids..

Tried it twice, both times, the pictus were killed.

Generally, gts are more aggressive then all the cichlids I tried pictus with, and I had a 75g tank.

I wouldn't try it in a 29g, but would consider it in a 75 if you can add the pictus' first. Definitely don't just add 1 pictus either, definitely get a school of 3 or more.

Alright, I'll let him know... But... I've had Pictus cats with Severums and even an Oscar before and nobody was injured or killed, so I'm still a little sceptical, I'd like another opinion if you don't mind guys.

my pictus seem to get along with my cichlids. i have a jd, severum, and firemouth in there with it. however i originally put in 2 blue jd's and the pictus killed and ate half of the smaller jd. i'm pretty sure pictus cats are predators so...that might be something to think about if the gt's are small enough

GT's 1.5", mabye 2" at the absolute max... Alright, I'll let him know my findings, thanks guys.
