I put my less than 2" pictus into my 40 gal. and within a couple of days it took over the hollow log occupied by my 2 plecos (5-8"). They never returned. It stayed in the log for about 10 - 14 days constantly moving but never leaving but for rare feeding forays very close to the log. When it left the log it found a fake plant ( in the corner of the tank near the log ) which it constantly ( day and night ) circles from top to bottom of the tank. Feeding forays take it to all corners of the tank but are rare.

A large rock cave and some plant shade area that is available is used by the plecos now. The pictus has been in the tank for about 2 months now.

I am sure this behavior will change once the 70 gal. tank but it will not be set up for a couple of months.

Thank-you in advance for your comments, etc.

Classic lonely pictus behaviour  Pictus catfish should really be kept in small groups of at least 3, when kept singularly they become depressed and lethargic but if kept in a group they are constantly active and will swim up and down the length of the tank constantly in their search for food.

i no i am going to echo what the great master himself has said but two things are like he said he is by himself get two more subject to tank size and also i am sure when it is dark he comes out even for a while when you are not looking..

but like we say get two more (subject to tank size) and you should notice one hell of a difference :p
