I tried posting a few photos yesterday, it was so particular and did not let me, took me many attempts to do it. And the photos are too small.

Considering this is an aquarium forum would it not be nice to be able to post hi res photos?

I've got to agree with the difficulties posting photo's. I treated myself to a new camera yesterday and when I tried to upload photo's from it using the sites own link I was told the image was too large. Two minutes later I'm on photobucket uploading the images there and linking from there instead. The problem is that site admin prefer us to add images via their own uploader - especially for competitions.

Now I have this new camera I'm not going to be able to join in any more competitions as I have no photo editing software on my pc and can't afford to buy some. I also don't know how to resize and I refuse to learn how to just to join in a competition.

It all seems too much hard work and it's hard work and stress I can live without I'm afraid. There's better things to stress about.

I will try to explain: Most modern phones and cameras take very large pictures, in terms of megabytes. Trying to email or upload these megabytes takes unnecessary internet bandwidth. The photos can be resized on your local machine or on your phone before you try to send them out. By "resizing" of course you lose quality, but the quality was very good to start with, and if you have not resized them too much it is usually OK. My wife's iPhone had an application running which was copying, sizing and uploading her photos to the "cloud" my wife had no idea it was happening why all the her photos were double and her phone was so slow. Anyway we stopped that menace now.

With modern technology, and especially with Apple, who are the spawns of the devil, and who usually decide for you, it is very easy to lose control of your personal data.

For example back many years ago, I was being asked by almost random people (eg visiting a child's birthday) to see why their computers were not working OK and were so slow. On inspecting those PCs I almost aways discovered them being infested with viruses and trojans, hence why so slow, but also huge amounts of pornographic material, in one case gay men. Imagine me sitting at the PC, trying to fix the computer the dad asked me to, with little children running in and out of the room, and there in all its glory is a gay fest porn mayhem and me trying to hide it from the kids :) Lesson: never ever give your PC to anyone.

This forum demands photos of less than 200KB each. In addition if you try to send multiple photos on the same post it keeps rejecting. That is very limiting in my opinion. Eventually I would like to post photos of my large aquarium and ask for advice for what fish to get.

I'm a bit of a techno-phobe ... I hate technology. I'm from the wrong era! When I left school computers were only just in their infancy and being a girl I just wasn't interested. I was around 30 when I got my first second hand pc and a nasty dial up internet connection. I'm in my 40's now and been using a pc for over 10 years but I still don't understand them ... all the terms and complicated jargon stresses me out. I've learned the basics, I can email, I can surf the net and I can upload photo's but anything beyond that and I get stressed - mostly because of the things you describe. The internet is a dark place and I worry one innocent mistake will open a whole world of hell.

My current laptop is now just over 3 years old and it's running slow and hot. I've actually said 'if it dies I'm going to think very seriously before replacing it' because I'm a nightmare and because it worries me so much ... as I said in my previous post - I can think of far better things to get stressed over lol

My new camera is a Nikon coolpix L830. It's had my Dad with his head in his hands today and he understands camera's. He's got a SLR and alters all the settings for different shots and understands it all. It just goes right over my head lol. You can image what all the talk of altering image size does to my poor little mind! Meltdown lol

I'm just not going to join in the competitions now. If I want to share an image elsewhere I'll continue to use photobucket. I understand it

sorry Nic, you replied while I was typing. I'll look into those links but as I've just said, it's not really my thing. I take photo's for pleasure and editing isn't on my agenda at the moment :)
