Right i am about to collect my ne 4ft tank totaling 40 gallons of water

what would be best to have sand or gravel ? whats easier to maintain and what is better for the fish ?

now it has an internal filter but would i be better to have an external filter instead or would i be better having both ?

with the cycle would i be better off removing the sponges from my existing tank even though it is half the size and swapping them over with the new ones ? does the filter housing hold the bateria or is it the sponge ?

i am guessing the equasion is 40 gl = 40 inch of fish or am i wrong ?

what is the benifits of logs over ornaments and would it be best to create a cave out of tiles and slate or buy a premade one ?

ok sand is easyer to maintain as all the crap sits on the top of the sand and when the fish swim around they move it up and it goes into the filter also help the fish colour up better.
