Hello there.

Picked up the new tank today, a Roma 240. It's massive !! Who'd have thought a mere 20cms can make such a difference :D

Here is a piccy of it unpacked with the 200L in the background. The Redmoor that you can make out of on top of the 200L will be going in to the 240 and I have some smaller pieces of Redmoor to go in to the 200L when I do a re-scape.. The cabinet it's going to sit on was custom made to take both tanks so it will be next to the existing tank. I've got a Fluval 406 that will be going on to the 240L and the 306 that was supplied with the 240L will go on to the 200L which currently has a U2 and U4.

I've got a whole bunch more pics of the cabinet construction that I can post later.

One phrase comes to mind..."We're gonna need a bigger boat" (Jaws, 1975)

That is a fine tank you have there. Makes my 55 litre look like a coffee mug

 Jaws. Thats awesome! Are you doing a journal so we can watch you build this tank from the bottom up? Say yes, please. :hyper:

Love Jaws, it's one of those movies I just have to watch whenever it's shown on TV even though I've seen it 100s of times :D

I intend to start up a journal. Not sure where to place it yet though. It'll start off with the cabinet build, so I guess that'll be the hardware section, but the tank itself is going to be planted so I guess then part 2 will have to be in the planted sections. Also I want to experiment with Co2 on the existing tank - so much to do :hyper: I guess I'll paste in the links when I start the new threads :D

Okay, dug out this thread to add a pic of the tank set up and cycling.

Excuse the way the rocks are set out, they are currently holding the wood down whilst it gets waterlogged. I ordered a little Korelia powerhead to increase the circulation and that came today so I'll install it at the weekend. I'm eager to also get an in-line heater sol I don't have to have the internal cluttering up the inside of the tank.

Wow that looks great! I love the red wood, very interesting and zI wish it was available here in the States. What stock do you have planned?

Thank you :) I was so excited when I found the redmoor wood in my Father In Law's LFS (he lives in the West Midlands) Round where I live it's all standard bogwood and, on a good day and when the wind's in the right direction, mopani.

I'm planning on Angels with some bottom dwellers, maybe zebra loaches. Any suggestions for something nice to go with the angels which they won't munch will be very much appreciated :D

Planting wise probably giant vallis and java ferns, anubais and moss on the wood and probably crypts as they seem to be the plants I'm having the most success with in my other tank. Once this one's cycled and stocked I'm planning on having a bash at hi-tech on my other tank :-(

Wish I could help with fish recommendations but I don't know diddly about Angels. Maybe some Corys for the bottom & Black Skirt Tetra school? I know that Pearl Gouramis are supposed to go well with Angels..........or Honey or Dwarf Gouramis.

I die for redmoor wood. I am in the states and can't get it. I have angels and you would be surprised, but they can handle a good variety of bottom dwellers.

Many different dwarf cichlids are great.....Bolivian Rams, Apistogrammas, Kribensis. {German blue rams too} But they are more sensitive.

Cories work well, I had khuli loaches with some with no problem. Bristlenose plecos

Schooling fish work well too. Espei Rasbora are my personal favorite.

Surely this has cycled by now? Did you swap over some media? I'm impatient and I want to see the fishes! I have yoyo loaches with my angels and there great to watch and not too boisterous but quite playful.

Loving the suggestions, thank you. The tank is still cycling because I also changed from internal to external on my other tank recently and all the media from the 2 internals went in to the new external I feel I should wait for the external filter to become more established before plundering it. If anyone can reassure me otherwise that would be great :)

What a shame you guys can't get redmoor in the states, why is that? Is something to do with import regs?

I have corys and kuhlis in the 200 so keen to try something different in the 240 and I love the look of zebra loaches :) I hadn't really considered cichlids other than angels, I'm quite liking the look of the dwarfs such as Apistos. I would like one shoaling species too.

I was playing around with my API test kit as I'm a little horrified at how high my ph is coming up in both tanks. It's higher in the tanks than it is straight out of the tap. If I leave tap water overnight it goes higher than straight out of the tap but not as high as the tanks. Is it normal for tank water to be higher than tap water? I have sand in both - purchased from LFSs, in the 200 I only have bogwood and some pebbles plus plants, in the 240 the wood and the rocks, all purchased from LFSs. I was expecting it to be highish seeing it comes out of the taps here practically in the form of chalk (I live on the edge of the Chiltern Hills) but surprised that it gets higher in the tanks. Any insight would be great, thanks.
