hey all,

i am due to pick up my 1st betta tonight and would like some advise.

i read there are a few different types,i think the one i have is a "super delta" or something like that, no idea what that means, lol

he is black, blue and white and is fairly small.

i have an aquastart 320 ready for him.small roman gravel like my main tank, fluval mini filter, all established and ready to go and a 50W rena heater.

i have read around but have had mixed answers,so thought i would ask for my piece of mind!!

what temp should he be at?

what can i put in the tank? is wood ok and an artificial plant? im useless with real plants

what is best to feed him? i use frozen daphnia, bloodworm on my main tank, and hikari micro pellets

how often do i feed him and how much? dont wanna overfeed, ive learnt from my mistakes doin that!!

can i possibly have anything with him? i was thinking i have 2 very small panda corys, would they be ok? or any other ideas?

is there any other thing i should do

many thanks

and i apologise if this has been asked before

keep mine at 26-7 degrees c

woods fine the plants have to be silk not plastic as it will rip his fins

daphinia not sure blood worms deffinatly and hikari betta pellets are best may be what youve got

how often do i feed him and how much? dont wanna overfeed, ive learnt from my mistakes doin that!!

pellets i feed mine a few pellets twice a day and blood worms every so often as a treet

can i possibly have anything with him? i was thinking i have 2 very small panda corys, would they be ok? or any other ideas?

i believe corys have to be in groups of 4 plus and need a lot of swimming space i think so depends on tank size nether seen one of your tanks before and some bettas just dont like company depends on the exact fishes personallity

is there any other thing i should do

make sure your tank is cycled

many thanks

its 28L i think, not sure what that is in gallons

oh no,i have no silk plants, and i wont be able to get any until saturday or sunday, will it be ok of i pop the artifiucl just until then?

if its a rigid plastic it may just shread his fins if it where me id just have no plants for a bit

also where you getting him from as the place may have a few if money permits

My temperatures are all between 26-29 celsius.
Hikari Gold Betta Pellets is what I feed on a normal basis, but at the moment I'm conditioning so feeding them 3 times a day, pellets one feed frozen foods on the other two and live every few days. But in general I'd feed twice a day, either pellets or mixture of pellets and frozen.

The thing with plants is, you can't put plastic in because bettas are curious fish and try to squeeze into every little bit - so squeezing through the bits of a plastic plant could rip fins then lead to infection etc. So silk, or live I'm afraid. Wood is fine :) On tank mates, it's trial and error. You really need more than 2 corydora, I used to have that tank and personally think only pygmy cory's would be good for it(taking into consideration a group is needed). You could try shrimp as well.

is this tank an ok size then for my betta?

i have just managed to get some valis, this will be ok for him wont it?

The tank looks fine to me and so is vallis :good: must take some pics of him when he is all settled :)

good luck mate and we look forward to seeing him

vallis is perfect. they like spindly long leaved things...in that tank id try a crypt too....pretty undemanding plant and does well with low/mod lighting without ferts...if you get one(they are nice and i hope you do) and experience melting of the leaves, that is normal when transplanted and will come back if you just stick with it)...i have a huge crypt in my taqnkand my boy prefers this to other areas of the tank(and ohter plants)...he rests in it sideways and i call it his lazy-boy...he uses it like a recliner.
cheers...he'll be very happy in there.

If you do decide on a few pygmy cories, make sure you add them first. Bettas are not keen on receiving new tankmates, but are usually OK if the tankmates are there first! Great size tank for him. If not cories, maybe add a smail or two?
