I bought him sick because I felt bad for him.

Never buy sick fish! Not only will they usually die from the stress of being moved to a new home, but it also is helping the business of an LFS that is trying to sell sick fish, and in turn facilitates the sale of more sick fish! They're not going to bother to treat and sell quality fish if they can sell them sick...

Acually they were going to let it die and then throw it away and they wouldnt sell it to me, but I begged them so they said the least they can do is give me the fish for the price they paid for it( 10 dollars).

No offense but you got ripped off, why wouldn't you have just asked for him if they were going to let him die anyways? This almost doesn't seem truthful, I mean he was ill and they were going to let him die (obviously they could see he was too bad to be treated), so you begged them to sell you a fish that they knew was going to die and didn't want to even give you most likely for that reason. I'm sorry but i'm thinking you may just be making stuff up to help for your obvious lack of knowledge, but thats just what i'm getting out of this.

Note: Here in the Cayman we do not recommend people sick fish, even if they ask for that exact fish. We have seperate ill tanks in the back were we can add medicine for diffrent things, I am pretty sure this is a very common thing in all pet stores. So what i'm saying is don't buy sick fish, it's a waste of money and the pet shop will most likely try to treat it.

No, what I am saying is true. But they only thought that it was its eye issue, and they said that it was really bad and that it was to late to save it but I wouldnt listen to them and wanted it anyway because I wanted to try and give it a chance. I do no what I am doing, thank you. I have been complemented on what good speciems my kribs and brichardi are. And I have done plenty of reserch on discus for the last 4 months before I though of getting one. All I want to know is what he actually died from!

Well okay, all i'm saying is this just sounds weird. I also have been doing research and have done alot in the passed. Blackangel complimented on my male angel, but that doesn't mean I know what i'm doing :p . People say im the best source of knowledge on the whole island, but agian thats pretty much nothing compared to some people on this forum. I would have asked around, I know it's hard not to bring a sick fish home and try to nurture it back to health. But you should have known it would have been very stressed from the lack of a group of Discus and to add onto it this eye problem which im guessing was probly pop eye, or some type of bacterial infection.

kribs, you might know things about your namesake but as far as i can tell, you know very little about anything else. and before you start ranting and raving about having "9 years of fishkeeping experience", you're just 14. i'm sorry to pull out the age card, but owning some fish since you were 5 does not an expert make!

tell you what, i'll respect your fishkeeping knowledge once you demonstate it. what do you know about keeping discus? you don't have to type out the complicated bits; i'll be satisfied with relevant (and accurate) links. just give me some evidence and i'll not say another word against you owning discus. heck, i'll even defend you the next time someone accuses you of not doing the research.

Can I get a AMEN?!

oh ffs, cant anyone be nice on this god damn forum?

Everyone just finds something to pick on.

Get over it.

I'm inclined to agree with both of the above comments - right or wrong the intention was good and probably made little difference to the eventual outcome. Experience or research is pretty irrelevant in this case IMO and Kribensis12 certainly doesn't deserve berating for what he attempted to do. :/

Errr im not picking on or makeing him feel intimmidated by anything i say here... Why did you buy a poorly fish. fish get damaged on the way over from diff countries nothing we can do about it almost like someone getting cancer they may die unexpectedly. and for 10 dollars u could have put an extra 10 to it and bought a healthy one. Also when a fish dies there are either easy ways to see if it is a internal or external problem and u can see its no external problem so obv a internal parasite. Taking a picture of it wasnt exactly nessacary as i love my discus but wouldnt take a pic of them dead! can i also ask what tank you kept him in and on his own problem killed him aswell as there shaoling fish 5+ i have 7 together... Please Take some advice that we have all given to you and dont think for one minutte were intimmerdating you.

does this sound like a person who does reasearch? someone who (despite having been explicitly informed otherwise) continues to refer to his apistogramma as an "African"? or how about a self-proclaimed kribensis "expert" who doesn't know that there are other Krib species beyond pulcher? and does any of this sound like someone who's willing to listen to the words of people that do know what they're doing? i just hear a bunch of willful ignorance.

i just want this kid to do some ACTUAL research on his fish. i'd be happy with just some basic information about the needs of discus--give me a minimum tank size, for crying aloud.

kribensis, give me one shred of evidence that you DO in fact know what you're doing with regards to discus keeping and i'll shut up. i told you already, i'll even be happy with just some links. i'm serious. i just want a little proof, that's all.

First of all, when I say Africans I mean it is a mostly african tank and only an idiot wouldnt know that they were New world cichlids! Also, here is a little bit of info I picked up on google and from a man who keeps discus at a lfs. The golden discus rule is a minnum of 10 gallons per fish( dosent mean you can put them in a 10 gallon and get away with it. You can succefully keep a pair of breeding discus in a 30 high. Also they like water temps at about 83-86( on average). Also, they can be up to 10-12 inches high. There waters ph needs to be about 6.5-7.0( you can go softer if you want to). There nirates should be at zero but can handle 20-30. The nitrites need to be at zero. Also, they do best on a diet of bloodworms, vegtables, and flake. Is that enough mister smart guy? Oh yeah and if you are so smart, I am not 14, I am 13! Mister I know everything and also I do listen to peoples advice and go onto google and google the fish before I buy, thank you!!!!!!!

Am sure you are not supposed to flame people like that, if you can't post a decent post(s). don't post at all
