They live i a 64 litre tank thats moderatly planted and contains saome driftwood and rocks. In the tank are 5 Betta imbellis, 4 wild fish and 1 captive bread fish.
They live along side 7 glowlight danios, 2 Sewellia lineolata, and 6 kuhli loaches.

The tank temperature is normally 77degrees but i do lower it and raise it to replicate a wild habitat. My tap water is quite hard and using a 50 50 mix or ro and declorinated tap water i keep the ph at 7.3 to 7.5 with a kh of 4ppm. i do 1 roughly 40% to 50% percent water change every week.

I no some people may think y tank is slightly over stocked but i think it works well and have had to add extra fish (the danios) to help give the imbellis some confidence. the reason i have 1 captive bread fish is because the wild group i brought only contained 1 male and i wanted 2.

Iv tried to take a few pics but there not very good and do not show the males to there true beauty, it doesnt help the fact that both males are a bit washed out as i have just done a water change.

I find it strange how the females vary so much in size and colour and i have to say the wild male is much more colourful tan the tank bred 1

Im not sure if this link to the pics work as i have struggled in the past to show photo's. Please let me no if it does or doesnt work

Hi Lloyd, at the risk of sounding very stupid here but are you sure they are Imbellis? they look nothing like any I have seen before?

I keep wild Bettas *Falx* myself so know what you mean about other fish giving them confidence

Yeah thet are, but i know exactly what you mean. i checked with the guy i briought them off and he assures me they are and i do trust his word, although i was shocked when they settled in and coloured up as each fish looks so different to the the other one, also the males look really washed out at the min. i think its because my new filter is to powerful and stressing them out ( i did keep the old media). Im trying to slow the flow down using all sorts of different methods and it is working to be honest. il try and post some better pics when they cheer up.

Impressive fish, something different to your average pet-store betta splendens :good:

 glad its not just me, i suppose there probably still young too?

Nice little tank, i always think you can get away with a heavier stocking when there are plenty of plants to break the line of sight and create a more natural environment for the fish.

sorry for the loss mate what happened?

My tap water id quite hard so when i brought them i softened my water with ro but my plan was to slowly use less ro over a few months but it just killed them the poor things

Betta imbellis do not require soft water. Find out what kind of water they have been reared in and try to duplicate it fairly closely from day 1. If you suddenly put hard water fish in soft water or vice versa, you are making it harder for them to survive and thrive. All changes in the water's mineral content should be done slowly, always, regardless of fish species or "ideal" water for the particular fish.

Just wanted to say great job on the plants, a real Betta's paradise!
