I have added water to my planned Malawi tank now.

Tested the water direct from tap yesterday at 11am when I filled it and was getting a pH of 8 and a Kh of 200 ppm.

Tested it again today at 6.30pm and pH has risen to 8.1/8.2.

Bearing in mind I have my DIY cement coated backdrop in there how long would you guys leave it before starting my fishless cycle, to ensure the pH won't rise too high?

For information I did cure the cemented sections of backdrop prior to placing it in the tank, so the only virgin tank cement is the stuff used to seal and hide the joins between backdrop pieces.

I was also planning on emptying this lot of water out of the tank and refilling it before starting.

I see no reason not to start the cycling process. You will continue to get some pH rise from that cement for a very long time and might as well start developing the bacterial colonies in your filter.
