Help!! Ive recently tested my water's ph in my tank and it measures 4.0!! What is my best option? Can anyone give me some advise? I have read that aerating the water will help so ive left the tank open.... Will this help?? :crazy:

Are all your fish acting normal?

If you test your tapwaters pH, and if it is normalish (anything from 6.0-8.0 really) then I would do a water change to help raise it.Have you got a kH test kit?

Please fill this out to help us help you;

A water change would be the quickest fix. Have you tested it more than once to make sure it wasn't a bad strip or not mixed the solution correctly? Dont think my test kit goes down that far! But from my school days thats very acidic and would be a red colour??

Some test kits supply you with a saltwater and freshwater comparison chart. Are you sure you are reading the right one? I can't imagine what would have to happen to drop the pH this much.

Also, sorry for the thread hijack, but I was just reading on wikipedia about pH and it said that the pH of hydrochloric acid is -1.5. How could you get a negative pH?

Sorry for the Hijack,

Ryan

Neutral is 7. 6 is 100 times more acidic than 7. 5 is 100 times more acidic than 6. 4 is 100 times more acidic than 5.

= 100 x 100 x 100 = 100 cubed.

100 x 100 = 10000.

10000 x 100 = 1, 000, 000.

So your water is a million times more acidic than neutral water. pH of 4 would be borderline corrosive. Either your fish and plants are all dead (most specialised acid-water fish I know tolerate about pH 5, lowest) or the test results were innacurate as far as I know.
