Hi,

I have a male and female krib, and have been wanting them to breed for some time, as I have had them around 3 mths now.

I need to know what triggers them, as I have read that it is to do with the PH,
was advised to have PH at 6.5, can anyone confirm what their pH is at for breeding them

They are in a 3 ft tank with 1 pleco and 5 Mollies, is this okay.

They also have a cave which they do use, but I am unsure that they have spawned because I havent seen any fry,

Thanks for you help

Mells.

my water is naturally between 6.6 and 6.2 pH. my kribs just hatched their first batch of fry, but they used to start courting following larger water changes of 20-25%. actual spawning would occur about every third week (then i'd shine a flashlight in their cave and they eat the eggs).

i've not heard that pH is critical to breeding kribs. what are your other parameters (nitrate, hardness, temp)?

--EDIT--
also, are your kribs at least 2" long? yours may still be jueveniles if you've only had them 3 months. and you do have a "cave", right? they won't spawn without one.

My Kribs are adults, my parameters are:

Amonnia 0
Nitrate & Nitrite 0
Ph 7
Temp 26c

And yes they do have a cave which they constantley in, and have done so since they arrived.

Thanks

kribs aren't too hard to breed if you get a good pair, mine spawn in ph 7.2 rather soft water. best of luck with it, just expect some aggression when kribs are protecting fry, they're great parents so you'll get TONS of little fry (I've got about 30+ right now), but be ready to remove fish if they're not fast enough to get away from kribs (my male tore my cories fins to pieces and even got a nip or two out of my rasboras)

Best of luck
Phillip

in that case, just be patient. maybe skip a water change and double up the next one. like i said, a 20-25% change makes mine pretty "frisky".

My water is 8.5 ph and I can't stop my kribs breeding!! They're on their 4th spawn now and I've only had them about 5 months! I'm actually looking to rehome them cos although they haven't hurt the other fish in the tank they certainly disrupt the peace.

mine bred in 7.5
if that helps :dunno:

that's why i shine the flashlight on mine. something about it always makes them eat the eggs :dunno: you should try that the next time.

Mine would breed once a month but raised there fry every time. The fru were looked after well y the adults. In between spawning they nip each others fins etc ..... i.e. sort of court again. Mine bred in a 2 foot tank and the p.h. was about 7. I had mine for a while and they wouldnt breed. Until ...... I added to zebra danios as dither fish. This is what started to get mine to spawn. The danios are to fast for kribs to catch so the danios did not get hurt at all.
