I'm thinking of keeping bolivian rams for a beginner tank(fluval roma 125), what rock and wood would you recommend?

I quite like Seiryu Stone... apparently it raises the pH though which isn't really useful. Which leads to the next question, what do you do to keep your pH more suited to cichlids?

Thanks for your time - Si

for dwarf cichlids if your pH is high you can use peat pellets in the filtration plus bogwood you can also get black water additives for rock work your best using either granit or slate as neither will change your kH and pH

Thanks jacko :)

It's quite difficult to get a hold of slate for a decent price  The only ones near me are dragon stone, blue stone, seiryo stone, lava rock and ocean rock and I think they all affect pH and/or kH

Go to the garden centre, you may find large slate pieces which you can then break down the seams with a hammer and chisel to create lots of thin pieces...mine has massive bits for £6

It's pricey at the one near here

you can buy it by the kilo on ebay welsh slate or black or grey granit £10 for 2kg or £23 for 10kg including delivery

Great :good: Thank you.

Have you ever used black water before? I've never heard of it being used.
