I came across this article whilst searching for some different types of java ferns. It was something i had never seen posted here before and was unaware of.

It's an article on how the pH affects nutrients in the water, which in turn will affect the plant growth.
Ie. At a pH of 7+, very little iron can stay in the water, which may lead to iron difficiencies.

Never heard anything like this before, I wonder how accurate the article is, maybe if Tom Barr sees the thread he can give his opinion.

Can't say I ever noticed a drop in Ph as I add NPK

We have found that the addition of PMDD nutrients assists in the lowering of pH.

They don't say how this happens.
 
Interesting article, but as Zig says tricky to know if this is accurate. I do believe that NH3 is less toxic in tanks with a low pH, so some reason.

It dose however highlight that no matter how much we think we know about out tanks there is always more going on they we realise.
