Community spirit: Why is there so much aggro in the aquarium between fish that appear to get on so well in the wild? Phil Hunt has some tips on keeping the peace in your reef tank. Put a shrimp in your tank: Our interest in shrimps has come a long way, and today we buy them not just for their scavenging abilities but as a point of interest as well. Chris Lukhaup looks closer at our freshwater shrimps.

MagazineTwenty ways to a better pond: Nick Fletcher offers 20 timely pond tips across the board. Trunk Call: When it comes to bizarre-looking fi sh, the mormyrids must score very highly. Dr Neale Monks takes a look at this fascinating group and explains the best way to keep them. Holiday feeders: Going on holiday and thinking about automatic feeders? We look at eight on the market.

MagazineStuff you need to know about puffers: Ian Jefferies has advice on giving these popular oddballs the right diet – and what to do if they prove diffi cult to feed. Plant of the Month: Hardy, durable and wellbehaved; Jeff Walmsley says Lindernia rotundifolia "variegata" is worth finding. Bleher's Biotopes: World-renowned explorer Heiko Bleher recreates a river habitat from the Safi a Valley in Papua-New Guinea. Real "neet" fish: It is a great pity that Neetroplus nematopus has been painted with such a black brush, argues Mary Bailey. Make more of your bottom: Jeff Walmsley has more advice on substrates, including how to re-energise one that’s worn out.

MagazineDamsel without distress: Bob Fenner encourages you to try a Talbot's damsel, which he says is excellent for a reef tank. Anemones: Many reefkeepers strive to keep an anemone complete with resident clownfish. But unfortunately, the anemones often prove difficult. Jeremy Gay has some advice on which to buy, those to avoid and how to provide them with the correct care. The u-shaped reef: When Alan Javens wanted a larger tank, he didn’t really have that much space, but he found a solution, writes
Les Holliday.

MagazineDon't tear your hair out: With over 350 species of Lobelia as border, bedding, bog garden, pond margins and true aquatics, where do you start? John Rundle knows...
