Anyone seen this months PFK article on the DIY background? I quite like it with the lava rock. I have been thinking of doing it for a few months now but with slate. Do you think this would work? I don't fancy siliconing it onto the tank glass though, so would a piece of perspex do and then place that inside the tank? Also really like the substrate, i have been after that colour for ages. Might have to look into it. :)

Yeah i saw it, looked great, i cant see any reason why slate wouldnt work, if you go for perspex then make sure its firmly attatched to the rear glass, i can see it falling forward :S

But yeah that sounds pretty cool try to bring the bottom forward and make some caves would add a lot of visual depth to the tank thats for sure! Gofor it!

The tank i was going to do it on is an old one anyway, has a few scratches etc so i may just stick it onto the tank directly... Don't like the idea of little fish trying to get behind the perspex and getting stuck. Need to source some cheap aquarium silicone as most LFS charge an arm and a leg for it! I also thought of slate due to it being thinner, lava rock would take up quite a bit of tank space.

I managed to find some in a hardware store just make sure you check the back it will say if its sutable

I got some from mastin moor aquatics which isn't far from you. At a reasonable price.
