The white sponge filter in me PF2 filter is getting a bit soft and thin so I think I will replace both black and white sponges My question to members is this:- Does it matter that much if I get genuine Interpet sponges or will the non Interpet replacements be just as good?

As long as it's a snug fit and doesn't cause backup/bypass I shouldn't think it would matter.
Might be a good idea to replace the sponges a week or so apart to avoid a potential mini-cycle.
Too much caution is better than not enough, IMO.

Hi, I have one of these filters and yes, generic sponges fit. Don't bother with the carbon (the black one) it's only useful if your removing medication from your tank.
