hi everyone, i've already expressed some of my anger on live chat, but i felt the need to post it here as well.

NOw, i don't know much about puffers, but lately i've been resarching about dwarf puffres a lot and waht tehy need becuase i really wanted them. So, now i have a 10g tank that's ready for them, and i go out to petsmart. Lo and behold, i see a tank full of cute widdle puffers, labeled as "dwarf puffers, max size: 1 inch", they looked a bit iffy to me, but i figure why would they mislabel their fish :blink:s o i bought 2.

Tonight, as i looked at them, i found something to be *really* not right. So i go online and check out some old pics of puffers that people have posted..and voila, my puffer was not a dwarf puffer, but a freaken geren spotted puffer :(

now i got 2 gsps in a 10g freshwater tank. Yes i know, lighting will striek me down any second, but here is a picture of oen of them:

the ywill be returned to the petstore(and if the petstores deosn't watn them, i'm gogn to amke them take them back). Petsmart 's fish manager is also gettin ga nice visit from me with a very nice picture of a gsp and a very nice picture ofa dwarf puffer, and he can tell me what is being sold in his fishtank.

unbelievable. Sheesh they're going to feel foolish when you show them the pics. Just think of all the clueless people they've sold them to

they wont feel foolish.. they wont give 2 poos.. i can bet that..

stores like that dont care about the fish period..

its all about the bling bling..

theyll probably make fun of you when you leave too..

i work at a pet store.. i know how things go.. im probably the only one that actually cares about the fish at the store i work at..

but ya know.. poo happens

They have to take them back as they mislabelled the goods its their fault and if they say no we dont take fish back tell them that you are going to take legal action if they dont :)

Ben

stupid !@#$!@#$@ !!!!

are the gsp in a brackish or fw tank at the store? ????

People posted about this along time ago in Oddball, and I guess they still haven't corrected the problem. This is why I never buy from stores like petsmart and petco if they are also selling fish. :/

yeah, they were in a fw tank. i know they will probably amke fun of me when i leave, but then again, i don't give 2 poos what they think of me either.

It's not just that one petsmart, ALL the petsmarts have the puffers mislabeled, i think they just dont' care becuase labelling them as dwarf puffers will make them sell faster. Who wants to know taht they really grow to 6" and need a brackish water tank? it's just easier to sell them if they can just tel their customres that they are freshwater, and only grow to a cute little size of 1"

ayways i still haven't called yet becuase i'm lazy and i just woke up

thats stinks cc!
i have how pet stores usually dont even have ay brackish tanks for brackish fish. i asked about the brackish fish at petco (they have a lot of them...al in fw) and they told me that the fish "prefer" a little fw salt but it is not necessary. :grr:

i donthtink my petsmart has any puffers but if they get some in, i will be sure they are not mislabeled.

(for those of you that dont know i just got a job at petsmart) :)

I sooo know how you feel. My petstore (actually a good one, so dont know whats up with them now =/) is selling puffers for a change as well ... I thought I'd go in and check seeing as I'm looking for dwarf puffers as well ... found them alright. 2 In 1 tank, together with LOADS of other fish. 1 of them was nearly missing his 'tail fin' coz the other kept attacking it. These puffers were labelled as "MBU Puffers" ... yup!!! selling for 3 euros as well :p In real life they were nothing but green spotted puffers. We already figured that, but wanted to make sure before saying anything about it anyway ... I did get them to put the puffers apart right away, thankfully! They were however stupid enough to move 1 of them in with small blue lobsters

Went home, checked it out, found out there were indeed green spotted puffers ... went back to tell them, however they refused to believe me!! I also told them green spotted puffers would need brackish water so they wouldnt be able to put it in with the plecs, seeing as they wouldnt survive in brackish ... there responds was "yeah, we know ... you gotta keep all puffers in brackish water, we've had them before! but there ok in this water for now" ... ugh

argh stupid petstores! they make me so mad :grr:

i had just caled all the petstores around my area, not one single one of them carry any true dwarf puffers! -_-

sadly i saw them in walmart about 2 months ago too, not anymore though :(

i dont' want to put these 2 guys back in petsmart where they wil be missold as dwarf puffers... but i dont' have a place for them either  i have a feeling even if i confront petsmart they wont' change thier label  as someone has said before....it's been bought up before but never corrected

I went to our least favourite LFS today and they too had GSPs in a freshwater tank and labled as pygmy puffers. I spoke to the manager and put them right.

I also told them about:

The marine toadfish they were selling as a freshwater lionfish,
The figure eight puffers they were selling as freshwater,
The Shark cats they had in a brackish tank,
The dead, finless male betta that was in the gorami tank,
The fungal disease all their clown loach had,
The shredded one inch juvenile angelfish sharing a tank with large ABFs
The large hermit crab that was down to three legs because he was sharing a tank with a panda dogface puffer,
The Freshwater target puffer in a brackish tank,
The very fat Dragon Puffer because all his tankmates were small tetras.
....

I don't know how it is in Canada, but I know in the UK there are laws govening the mis selling of products. If they don't change their label in a reasonablely short period of time, it may be worth getting in touch with trading standards (or your eqivelent)

How much do GSPs usually cost? :dunno:
Well that's the good thing for someone who knows what they're buying. GSPs are around £12 around here, but because they were labeled as dwarfs, they were only £3.45!
