Petco is stupid

I just bought 3 platies from Petco and the employee didn't know how to distinguish between the sexes! I asked for a male and 2 females and I got 2 males and a female. My poor female is gonna get raped grrr.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation, I had the same thing happen to me with cichlids except I got all females and not one male. They should let you return a male for a female since it was their fault.

Yeah I know how to sex them; the thing is when I looked in the bag I thought it was 2 females and a male but later found that one of the females looked more like a male. It was weird the anal fin was half gonopodium half not. Now I'm not even sure anymore. Maybe it's changing sex I've heard that happens in swordtails maybe it happens in platies too?..

The cichlids are great, no one has eaten the eggs and no one is guarding them so I'm really puzzled. Convicts are nice, but breed easily.

I know how you feel David. Once when I was in Petco, I asked for a cute female Dalmatian that I wanted and the employee said it was male. It was obviously a female!

ok nvm lol. I just realized after researching on the internet that I did get i male and 2 females. What looked to me like a male is really a female, so my gut instinct was right. Her anal fin has a bit of an extension that looks somewhat like a gonopodium. Weird huh?

my platty looked to be female until it got about 6 months old, then u could clearly see it was male. I know with all my fry except guppies, it take about 6 to 7 months to be able to see what sex they r going to be.

Your getting the cichlid buzz Convicts can go with a wide range of Cichlids, from Red Devils to Oscars, and go really good with smaller cichlids like firemouths, blue acaras and of the sort.
