So i went to petco today and bought an Umbrella plant to come home and find out its not a true aquatic plant! Should have known considering you buy it in a "gel pot".
I would have done research on it but i was anxious to get my first live plant. I was going to start out with a java fern but they didn't have any. So this is great hopefully my gourami will get a good snack out of it since it will rot anyway but i think there should be a post naming fake plants.

Before you go buy plants, read the link below first, especially if you go to the chain stores. There are some amazing deals to be found if you know what to avoid. I often go to Petsupermarket and can get matured Cryptocoryne spiralis for less than $5 a pot. This isn't one tiny plant, but a pot chock full of a mother plant and her daughter. A great deal. But you have to sift through the non-aquatics.

So now I've got to add umbrella plant to the list. :shout: Geez, everybody knows that that is definitely a terrestrial plant. Those things get super huge! We use them for hedge landscaping in Miami. I'm sorry you were mislead. Take a picture and show it to me, so I can confirm your plant is the plant I'm thinking of, and I'll add it to the list. Take it out of the aquarium and put it in a pot, indirect sun. It'll last forever. Don't bin it. It's not the plant's fault.

If it hasn't been to long and you still have the packaging, put it back in and return it back to petco. I did the same thing with petsmart. I picked up a handful from them, some of them were "possible" aquatic. I actually still have some that were not in my tank and they haven't started to decay yet, but watching them closely so I can pull them out at first signs. But anyways, The ones that were 100% not aquatic i put right back in the packaging and returned them, gave them the reason of that they were not true aquatic plants, and they refunded.
