Ok guys and girls, time to vote. I have a pair of Dwarf Cockatoo's. I'm looking for another pair of dwarf cichlids to go in my tank.

It already has some tetra's and an angel, tank is a 30usg tall.

I would love a blue cheek, but am struggling to find a uk supplier. I think I may be able to get hold of a borelli, but was wondering what other people think. I'm looking for colour, so get your brains going and let me know.

Thanks :good:

Could you explain why they need to be albino? Also I wouldn't recommend kribs for a tank with apisto's, a pair of kirbs is a bit too aggressive for the apistos in my opinion.

Becasue albinos are missing some pigment in there vision so it is harder to locate things to bully. I have 2 cockatoo's in a 20g with a piar of albinos and they do fine, but i have some borelli's in my 30g with my regular pair and they beat the crap outta them.

Thanks for the thoughts re Kribs however I was really trying to keep this tank s/american (from a cichlid perspective).

Anyone else got any opionions/ tanks mates for cockatoo's?

My god this thread made me remember a dwarf cichlid I used to own and died in a power outage...I have just become quite sad...oh well... Ummm how about some German Blue Rams? Or Agassizi's?

There are so many different dwarf that you could add to the set up. What are your water perameters?

This is a run down of the most common dwarf cichlids genuses or species: (sizes are all for males, females will be 1/3 smaller)
  • Anomalchromis thomasi The African Butterfly Cichlid: 10cm from West Africa. Harder water prefered.
  • Pelvicachromis sp.: Most get to 10cm for males. Kribs are most often seen, but other more attractive sp. come up as well, at high prices. Hards water.
  • Steatocranus sp. African Blockhead cichlids: 11cm, bottom dwelling cichlid for hard water. Lots of charecter. Hard water as well.
  • Apistogramma sp.: Loads of diffent sp. at differnt prices, just choose what colour you want. From 3-10cm. Soft water.
  • Cleithracara maronii Keyhole cichlids: 10cm, very peaceful, wont do any damage to anything. Not the brightest colours though. Any sort of water.
  • Leatacara sp.: colourful and bold. 15cm depending on sp. (commonest will get to 10cm). Soft water.
  • Nannacara sp.: Very similar to Leatacara, attractive and 5-10cm long. Neutral water.
Googaling most of them should give some good info, or asking us will help.
