Peppermint Bn Breeding Tank

Thats how the mop flops i spose...i have been extremely fortunate to not have any tank issues for 10+yrs, so this is just a minor bump in the road :) As it stands now. So far no sign of planaria in the tank itself

Tank is back running, had to change heater, so tank is still coming up to temp, should be right by tomorrow. She is a pretty bare looking thing at present. Substrate, 2x small bits of wood, 2x plastic plants, filter and the heater.

Once temp is right, the fish and shrimp will go back in. Then i can sterilize the other bits of wood and BN caves before they are returned to the tank. The fish are not being fed at present, and wont be until they go back into their main tank, the container they are in is way undersized and booming with planaria, i need to keep the fish's guts clean and starve out the planaria.

Once the meds arrive i will be treating the main tank (even though there is no visible sign of them) and also the containers the plants are in

I am winning the war!!

Wow I always thought planaria were totally harmless!  I never realised they were so detrimental to shrimp.

Interesting to hear how you've been dealing with the problem.  A good cautionary tale against letting detritus build up unnoticed amid the hardscape.

Definitely not harmless, they will polish off eggs and shrimp, that i can vouch for. I too though planaria was harmless, they most assuredly are not!

Yep, hence why i posted the issue, a warning, be careful of hardscape placement and be sure to check that mulm isnt getting caught unnoticed.

So i see Pep fry in the tank this morning, so the big disturb and clean out hasnt deterred them from breeding thankfully!

Thanks :)

Sadly i lost most of them in the planaria outbreak. They are breeding back up into numbers now though :)

I'm sorry to hear that, A lot of people on this forum seem to be losing their shrimp

So i finally got a new tube for the light over the pep tank....oh my.....there are soooo many pep fry swimming about. Its either a really large batch or a few batches together. I am expecting to lose some though, as is the nature of breeding them i've found.

Congrats! Please do post pics when you can

The Peps have gone crazy.......just went to take some pics and there is another batch (eggs with tails lol) there and the other pair is currently getting busy at it

I'm gonna need a grow out tank at this rate...holy moly!

And i spots today some berried red cherry shrimp, woooohoooooo.
