one of my cories has come down with the spots, first time dealing with it with them and i know there sesative to medicine. just wondering if there alright with ick treatment and if so what medicine is best for ick...never used the stuff before???

could they handle a heat and half dosed salt treatment as i hate dealing with medications????

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Its quite rare for corys to get whitespot.
Do the spots look the size of a grain of salt.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
If its whitespot read med instructions carefully as sometimes you have to half dose with corys.
Any redness to the spots like a circling of red around the outside of the spot, or a red centre.

nitrate 20

10 gallons

currently houses:
4 WCMM
1 flame dwarf gourami(had white spots yesterday morning- quarentined in a spare 2.5G with some salt and heat- white spots went away by today- was going to keep it in there for a bit but i moved it back to the main 10g since the cories have it anyways)
2 Head and tail light tetras
4 peppered cories(got them when they were babys so im growing them out a bit and fattening them up before putting them in my 65 gallon)

the spots definitly do look like little raised salt speks, i noticed a little flicking a few days ago by the gourami and a cory... it doesnt look like the columinaris i had in my other tank and its not on there fins just on their bodies this time.. i think only 2 are showing signs of white spot. no red at all anywhere on any of them that i can see...

other wise they are fine- eating and playing well.

since no one answered me on here i found some other reputable forums which advised it is safe to do a salt and heat treatment with cories as long as you add it gradually and dissolve the salt first... i hate using posionous medications so i'll always try aquarium salt first and from what ive read it is good at treating ICH along with heat. i usually keep the tank at 23-24 for the cories(read that peppers like cooler water) as well as the WCMM. i raised the tank gradually to 28... well see how it looks in the morning- hopefully i dont need to get any medicine.

You will need to treat main tank aswell if you took him out of the main tank with whitespot.
Corys tolerate abit of salt but not alot so I would use the med.
If you do use the med don't forget to increase aeration with high temps and med as they reduce 02 in the water.
Also usually you have to half dose with corys as they tend not to handle parasite meds to well.
Remove black carbon if you use it in your filter.

Can't really comment on the salt and high temp method as i've only had whitespot once and I used a med.

I've treated white spot once, and used just heat because of the cories, no meds or salt. With using just heat, you must keep it up for 10 days for it to work. Heat speeds up the life cycle of the ich fast enough that they don't get the chance to reproduce. Must use lots of aeration to keep the O2 levels up.
